About MOST

Who are we

Socialist Transformation

The Movement for Socialist Transformation

MOST brings together socialist and left activists, trade unionists, working people, youth, women, students, peasants, artisans, professionals, intellectuals, progressive citizens and organisations of the oppressed, working and toiling masses.

It is Pan-Nigerian, Pan-African and internationalist in orientation, and is open to all progressive Nigerians committed to the struggle for social justice, equality, democracy, collective ownership and working people’s power.

MOST therefore exists as a movement for political engagement, ideological education, social intervention, mass mobilisation, class solidarity and the struggle for political power by the working people. It is not merely an electoral platform, nor is it simply a welfare advocacy organisation. It is a socialist movement committed to building the consciousness, organisation and power of the working and oppressed people of Nigeria to replace the anti-people rule of the capitalist ruling class with a New Socialist Nigeria.

Where it started

Our History & Journey

Origin

ASCAB

Alliance for Surviving COVID-19 and Beyond

MOST’s journey grew from ASCAB, which proposed a sustainable left-led mass political intervention in Nigeria and called for a broad political organising process rooted in existing and emerging popular movements, labour, youth, women, communities, citizens’ platforms and radical progressive forces.

Following Stage

TPAPS & TPAP-M

The People’s Alternative Political Summit & Movement

This process led to the People’s Alternative Political Summit, TPAPS, which resolved to establish a common political platform for political engagement, social intervention, and contestation for political power, named TPAP-M, with the ideological identity of a coalition committed to the emergence of a Mass Workers Party and the Socialist Transformation of Nigeria.

2022

CAST-Nigeria

Campaign for Socialist Transformation of Nigeria

Launched in 2022 as a campaign platform to place socialism at the centre of Nigeria’s political discourse and to intervene during the 2022/2023 electoral period, presenting CAST-Nigeria as a campaign to make the case for socialism, social justice, equitable distribution of wealth and universal access to opportunities and basic social services.

Late 2023

STON-C & MOST Founded

Socialist Transformation of Nigeria Conference

The Socialist Transformation of Nigeria Conference, STON-C, consolidated the process and formally established MOST, with CAST-Nigeria continuing as its campaign arm. MOST was established as a movement for political engagement, ideological education, social intervention, mass mobilisation and the struggle for socialist transformation.
