About MOST
Core Principles
01
Socialist Transformation
Socialist Transformation
MOST stands for the transformation of Nigeria from an underdeveloped, capitalist and neo-colonial society into a socialist society based on justice, equality, inclusion, collective ownership and the democratic control of society’s wealth by the working people.
02
Working Class
Working People's Power
MOST believes that the working class, organised labour, informal workers, peasants, youth, women, students, artisans and other oppressed groups must be the central force in the struggle for political power and social transformation. The movement is committed to promoting working people’s control of Nigeria’s political and economic processes.
03
Economy
Social Ownership and Economic Democracy
MOST stands for popular and democratic control, as well as social ownership, of the commanding sectors of production, distribution and exchange. This includes opposition to privatisation, looting of public property and policies that place public wealth in the hands of a few.
04
Basic Needs
Universal Access to Basic Needs
MOST believes that every person should have guaranteed access to food, water, housing, healthcare, education, security, decent work, transportation, energy and a healthy environment. This is consistent with the broader socialist social policy commitment to protecting, developing and safeguarding the material security and well-being of every member of society.
05
Solidarity
Class Solidarity and Mass Ownership of Struggle
MOST affirms that the liberation of Nigeria must be owned and driven by the working, oppressed and exploited masses themselves. The struggle must grow leadership from within the oppressed and marginalised, rather than depend on elite bargains, personality cults or ruling-class political arrangements.
06
Anti-Capitalism
Anti-Capitalism, Anti-Neoliberalism and Anti-Imperialism
MOST identifies capitalism, neo-liberalism, imperialism, privatisation, deregulation and ruling-class mismanagement as root causes of poverty, inequality, insecurity, unemployment and social decay in Nigeria. Socialist transformation is the alternative to neo-liberal market policies and private-sector-led exploitation.
07
Democracy
Genuine Democracy and Popular Participation
MOST stands for genuine democracy rooted in the full participation, power and interests of working people and the toiling masses, rather than the interests of the rich few. It supports grassroots structures, collective decision-making, accountability, democratic discipline and political education.
08
Unity
Opposition to Ethnic, Religious and Divisive Mobilisation
MOST rejects divide-and-rule politics based on ethnicity, religion, gender or other parochial identities. It recognises class struggle as central to the liberation of the oppressed and insists on building solidarity across Nigeria on the basis of the common interests of working and oppressed people.
09
Social Justice
Equality, Inclusion and Social Justice
MOST stands for equality and inclusion irrespective of ethnicity, religion, gender, class, age or social background. It supports social and economic justice, gender equality, the empowerment of marginalised groups and the eradication of injustice, inequality and abuse of power.
10
Education
Political Education, Cadre Development and "Each One Teach One"
MOST is committed to building, learning and teaching. It sees political education as central to empowerment and movement-building, using study groups, workshops, campaigns, debates, mentorship and cadre development to deepen socialist consciousness and prepare members for disciplined organising.
11
Organisation
Collective Leadership and Organisational Discipline
MOST rejects personality cults, individualism, unilateralism, sectarianism and counter-organisational tendencies. It affirms collective leadership, democratic processes, agreed structures, ideological clarity, intergenerational solidarity and disciplined organisation as essential to building a genuine socialist movement.
12
Pan-African
Pan-African and International Solidarity
MOST is Pan-African and internationalist. It stands in solidarity with oppressed and working people in Africa and across the world, and recognises that socialist transformation is connected to the global struggle against capitalism, imperialism and exploitation.
13
Climate
Environmental and Climate Justice
MOST’s principles and policy framework recognise environmental sustainability, climate justice, renewable energy, public transportation, sustainable agriculture and ecological protection as part of socialist transformation. Climate justice is a core principle, linked to ecological socialism and a just transition away from fossil capitalism.
14
Peace
Peace, Security and Human Dignity
MOST understands insecurity, poverty, corruption, violence and fear as products of the ruling-class capitalist system. It therefore links peace and security to social justice, equality, democratic control of resources, decent livelihoods and the empowerment of working people.
